Cotton Holdings Partners with Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo as Title Sponsor of World's Championship Bar-B-Que Contest

Local Disaster Relief Company Steps Up for 2024 Rodeo Season

Cotton Holdings, Inc., a Houston-based disaster relief and leading infrastructure support company, in partnership with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, has announced its return as the Title Sponsor of the World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest. The contest, scheduled from February 22 – 24, 2024, will kick off the 2024 rodeo season and the organization’s 92nd anniversary.

“For years, Cotton Holdings has been a part of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and I’m excited about the opportunity to take our participation a little further as Title Sponsor of this year’s World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest,” said Pete Bell, Founder and CEO of Cotton Holdings, Inc, before the announcement in 2022. “As a Houstonian, I grew up attending the Rodeo and have always loved the energy and pride it brings to our community. Knowing that Cotton is directly supporting the Rodeo’s ongoing efforts to support the community, scholarships, and local pitmasters is an incredible feeling. After a two-year delay, we are ready for a big comeback and I look forward to creating an unforgettable experience for this milestone anniversary.”

More than 250 barbecue teams from across Texas and the world will compete in the 2024 World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest, which drew more than 264,000 visitors over three days in 2023. Teams will compete for champion titles in the following categories: Brisket, Ribs, Chicken, Go Texan, Dutch Oven Dessert, and Open Contest. The Open Contest category was launched in 2022 and will allow barbecue teams to showcase any dishes other than desserts.

Cotton Holdings has a strong history with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo as a participant in the World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Competition for nine years. Cotton Culinary, a subsidiary of Cotton Holdings, has also participated in the Rodeo Uncorked! Roundup and Best Bites Competition for nine years and has brought home a few accolades from the event, including 2nd Place in the Open Contest for their “City Meets Country” Surf & Turf and People’s Choice Award for their duck carnitas at Best Bites.

“Given Cotton’s long-standing presence in Houston and their commitment to the community, as well as their support of the World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest, they were a natural fit as the new title sponsor,” said Rodeo President and CEO Chris Boleman before the announcement in 2023. “The World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest is one of the most highly-anticipated events leading up to opening day of the Rodeo, and we are excited that Cotton will be an even bigger part of our annual contest.”

Tickets for the World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest are on sale at rodeohouston.com. General admission is $20 for adults 13 and over, $10 for children between the ages of 3–12, and free for children aged 2 and under. While most team tents are invitation-only, visitors can enjoy several public venues, including The Garden, Rockin' Bar-B-Que Saloon, the Chuckwagon and the carnival.
